During these recent years, veganism and vegetarianism have been acquiring a lot of new followers and their popularity have increased significantly, either because of people’s concern about their health and the environment, or maybe just as a trend.
This summer I had the privilege to visit the beautiful country of Slovenia. Its capital city, Ljubljana, was the European green capital in 2016 thanks to the implementation of sustainable criteria in different areas of the city, and also received awards related to tourism: “The Golden Apple” and the “Tourism For Tomorrow”. This blog was born one year ago and it’s time to take a step back and admire what we’ve accomplished. Looking back, for me it was a hard decision to start La Ecoturista blog due to my perfectionism, but now I feel very proud of myself because it was the first step to start my future own business. During this year I’ve talked with environmental-friendly people that travel in a sustainable way, giving me the opportunity to know more about their challenges/problems when they are on holidays. Line 4 of the Barcelona metro service, three o’ clock in the afternoon (Line 4 is the one that goes to the beach). I’m on my way to a work meeting. There’s no seats available, so I simply stand. I look around and realize that I can’t hear even a hint of Spanish, much less Catalan. English, French, and Dutch dominate the scene. I see tourists with their towels, flip flops, and reddish skins. I wonder if they notice me there, if they think my outfit or my white skin are strange. Do they think I was put there as a part of a museum display to enhance their “tourist experience”?
